Allow me to geek out for a sec...

Sat Aug 15, 2009, 7:14 AM
District 9 is AMAZING! That's all I'm gonna say about the movie.

I've been a fan of Neill Blomkamp's work for a long time now, and he's actually the first (and I think so far the only) filmmaker that I've been a fan of. Which is pretty easy because all the work I've seen from him before District 9 were all less than 10 minutes long.

The first movie I've seen from this director (I think I saw this a four years back on compfused.com or ebaumsworld.com) is this: [link]

It was a cool short, but I had no idea what it was about, and didn't know it was by Blomkamp. However, when I saw this intriguing short that same year on compfused.com, [link] I was amazed at the originality and quality that I had to look up who made this movie. Then, a couple of years later I saw this next short he made for...Adidas: [link]

At the time I thought it was so cool that I was following a low-key underground director, and I didn't expect that Blomkamp's name would pop up as the chosen director for Peter Jackson's (of LOTR fame) failed attempt for a live-action Halo movie. But even though a full-length Hollywood version of the Halo universe didn't come though, this Halo short movie series made by Blomkamp for the release of Halo 3 came out [link]

So you can only imagine how totally geeked-out I was when I found out that Peter Jackson was going to work again with Neill Blomkamp to make a full-length movie based on Blomkamp's "Alive in Joburg" short. And, well, I guess I'll say this again: IT WAS AMAZING.

(Next on my watchlist: "The Hurt Locker", "Avatar" by James Cameron, and "Moon")

I know it's over been a year since I posted anything, but I am working on them, I promise!
